The Kitchen Project isn’t just about following a recipe—it’s about embarking on a culinary journey. Imagine setting out to craft the ultimate cinnamon roll. You don’t just mix flour and sugar; you dive into the story behind the swirl. Back in the 1600s, the spice trade brought cinnamon from India and beyond to Europe, where inventive bakers folded it into sticky buns. The result? A sensation. German and Scandinavian immigrants carried the tradition to America, and brands like Pillsbury and Cinnabon turned it into a household favorite.
But the Kitchen Project goes deeper. It’s about discovering what makes dough truly divine, what transforms a filling from good to unforgettable. And when you finally perfect your version—your roll, your legacy—you write it down. You preserve it. You share it with those you love.
I also want to hear about your ideas for projects, Let me see if I and others can help you get going on writing your own cookbook. Maybe you want to restore some family recipes, or start from scratch to recreate it. Also take some family favorites and annoint it with a great easy to follow recipe, with a family story.
Our History
I first started the project with a family cookbook about the interesting life and recipes that my German Grandmother had raising a family in Portland, Oregon. Our whole family contributed and we thought it was a good way to preserve the wonderful culture and memories of life at a different time.
I started selling the book and having online discussions with people all over the world about German cooking, their experiences with their German relatives. Also, sharing recipes, and helping reconstruct ones they have had that their Grandmother or someone in their family use to make.
